Check out this week's drummer of the week. Cody Stewart of the band Serpents.
Cody’s kit is a 4 piece with a variety of different cymbal brands on
it, the most visible is a Sabian crash and a Zildjian crash &
hi-hats. I have tried to gather more info on Stewart with no such luck.
I haven't heard too much of them except that the singer Andrew Mikhail departed from the deathcore monsters Oceano, and formed Serpents.
Joined by Dusty Boles from Rose Funeral, Serpents have
been designed as more of a studio project for the time being. As plans
come together slowly -- with touring hopefully in the future.
The band describes their music on their Facebook page as:
"SERPENTS bring their infectious brand of venomous yet pulverizing music
to the unsuspecting masses to bring you a new beginning of the end."

DRUMGASM....a supergroup of drummers????
A new "Supergroup of Drummers" has been formed including Janet Weiss of Wild
Flag, Zach Hill of Death Grips, and Matt Cameron of Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam. The three bashers have come together to form a
drumming supergroup, dubbing their upcoming album, Drumgasm.
Portland label Jackpot Records currently has a webpage devoted to the new project.
"Three people, three drum kits, some microphones and a reel of tape – that's it: pure spontaneity," reads the listing. "There's nothing out there that's very comparable to this – maybe the Voodoo drum ritual music of the Drummers of the Societe Absolument Guinin, is all I can think of, though admittedly even that is a pretty far cry."
This collection of skin-hitters should be out on Aug. 27th. You can pre-order your copy on

"After the session was done and mixed, I was given access to the recordings, and I spent hours listening closely, parsing out the details in what seems at first like a Niagara Falls of sound. In fact it's very possible to pick out what each of the drummers is doing at a given time and zoom in on action/reaction, call and response, time games, shifting levels of synchronization and de-synchronization, repetition and pattern...it's all there if you want to dissect it. But eventually I found that simply relaxing into the sound, riding the contours of energy, density, movement, was probably the most rewarding way of listening to this music. At this level, the experience is deeply calming, as the sound becomes a river, sometimes roaring in a torrent, other times opening up to reveal subsurface details, but always moving, flowing."
"So for us, the freaks, the heads, this is gold: masters of their instruments in a frenzy of creation - creation for its own sake, for the love of music and sound and drums, a universe away from music as product, musician as brand. Dig it."

Drummer of the week....Chris Adler of Lamb of God
Chris Adler blew my f*cking mind last night. If you haven't seen Lamb of God you are missing a great live band. Chris was simply amazing! He is definitely one of the best metal drummers of our era. The energy this guy put's into his drumming is unsurpassed. I have no other words to truly describe his drumming. So I'm gonna leave it at that.

Paul Bostaph......back with Slayer
Paul Bostaph is "excited to be back" with SLAYER and is
"looking forward" to hitting the road again with the band starting this
week, the drummer revealed during his first interview since rejoining
the group.
Bostaph recorded three albums with Slayer before he left the band in 1996 to concentrate on his solo project, Truth About Seafood, and was replaced by Jon Dette; however, he returned in 1997.
Bostaph departed from Slayer after the release of God Hates Us All, following a chronic elbow injury he had sustained that would hinder his ability to play. (although he later revealed that the actual reason for departure is because "Musically, I wanted to do something else".
This on-again/off-again relationship with the band has taken it's toll. However, he's back and ready to start a new chapter in the Slayer history books.
Besides Slayer, Bostaph has played with some other big metal bands, including:
